Principal Environmental Sustainability Officer
Salary: £56,655 – £61,324
Contract type: Permanent
Location: Brent Civic Centre
Closing Date: Friday 7th April 2023
In less than a decade, a new £1.7b superhub station will open at Old Oak Common, bringing High Speed 2, Elizabeth Line and Great Western mainline services into the heart of one of the most neglected, yet fascinating, parts of west London. Alongside around 90 acres of adjacent potential development land, this brings tremendous opportunities to see a renewed and truly exemplary urban district emerge – one that showcases environmental, social and economic innovation and best practice and which delivers genuinely inclusive growth for existing and future communities alike. It is this challenge that the Mayor of London has set for us at the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. We have a single mission – to make that happen.
As well as the construction of the new station, we have more than 7,000 new homes recently completed and under construction, with 8,000 more in the pipeline, major investments in new businesses across Park Royal and Old Oak and a newly launched Creative Enterprise Zone. We have a newly adopted Local Plan, funding from the mayor to acquire sites, and a close collaboration with our partners across local and central government to push ahead with our plans.
With these successes underway, and as we gear up for the big delivery challenges ahead, we now need to appoint development, regeneration and project management professionals to help us shape this part of west London.
What we are looking for
The role of the Principal Environmental Sustainability Officer will be located within OPDC’s Development Directorate, reporting to the Head of Infrastructure. You will be responsible for overseeing the planning and delivery of our sustainability workstreams to ensure that the development meets exemplary standards of environmental sustainability.
The role will involve advising internal planning, land development, and strategy teams on issues of policy and practice, and acting as the main contact point for relevant environmental sustainability stakeholders externally.

We are therefore especially keen to hear from applicants whose experience and work, in and out of paid employment, can bring a deep understanding of working in a multi-cultural, dynamic and diverse environment.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to represent the city we serve, which will help us become a more innovative and efficient organisation. Our goal is to make our recruitment as inclusive as possible. We are a disability confident employer who guarantee an interview to any disabled candidate who meets all of the essential criteria. We also use anonymising software that removes identifying information from CVs and cover letters to make the process fair.
